CLINTON GLOBAL INITIATIVE

Creating a community of doers who are taking action on the world’s most pressing challenges, together

ABOUT

The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) brings together established and emerging global leaders to create and implement solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. CGI works with partners to develop Commitments to Action — new, specific, and measurable actions in climate resilience, health equity, and inclusive economic recovery and growth.

TAKING ACTION TOGETHER

President Bill Clinton launched CGI in 2005 to turn ideas into action — creating a new space where leaders across sectors could commit publicly to form unlikely partnerships and take action together. Since then, partners in the CGI community have made more than 3,800 Commitments to Action that have made an impact in the lives of over 435 million people in more than 180 countries.

APPROACH

CGI convenes, connects, and catalyzes leaders in government, business, philanthropy, grassroots organizations, media, and academia to commit to take action.

1

CONVENE A COMMUNITY OF DOERS

CGI brings together leaders of NGOs and philanthropic organizations; prominent voices in business, labor, and finance; influential youth advocates and grassroots activists; heads of state and other government officials; and other global citizens to explore effective models for making lasting positive change.

2

DRIVE COMMITMENTS TO ACTION

CGI supports partners and their programs by helping to forge new partnerships, provide technical support, and elevate compelling models with potential to scale.

3

SPOTLIGHT PROVEN MODELS AND APPROACHES

Solutions to many of the world’s challenges are already out there. CGI works to identify, elevate, and mobilize resources to scale them.

ACTION NETWORKS

POST-DISASTER
RECOVERY

Launched in 2018 following the devastation of the 2017 hurricane season, the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Action Network on Post-Disaster Recovery is a network of organizations committed to advancing response, recovery, and resiliency efforts across the Caribbean region.

To date, members of the Action Network have launched 117 Commitments to Action to build resilience for communities in the region across a variety of sectors such as renewable energy, access to healthcare and mental health, agriculture and food security, education, and emergency preparedness and response.

INCLUSIVE ECONOMIC RECOVERY

To address the longstanding disparities that were exposed and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and to drive solutions to create a more equitable and inclusive recovery, the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) launched a CGI Action Network on Inclusive Economic Recovery.

Building on the legacy of President Clinton and the model of the CGI Action Network on Post-Disaster Recovery, the CGI Action Network on Inclusive Economic Recovery will bring together U.S. leaders from the public sector, private sector and civil society to develop solutions that encourage economic growth and stability for all Americans.

OVERDOSE RESPONSE NETWORK

The U.S. overdose crisis is among the most pressing and indiscriminate health challenges of our time. Overdose deaths are preventable, and solutions to the crisis lie within our own communities. The Clinton Foundation, with over 15 years of experience tackling complex health challenges, is uniquely positioned to help communities across the U.S. reduce stigma and save lives.

HAITI ACTION NETWORK

Members of the Haiti Action Network focus on creating sustainable economic growth in the five priority sectors of agriculture, energy, environment, tourism, and artisans/manufacturing.

The Foundation promoted full-cycle investing in these sectors, bringing together producers, investors, and markets in a way that is socially, environmentally, and economically impactful. Through this approach, the Clinton Foundation has helped Haitian businesses develop their skills, increase their productivity, build their capacity, and connect with international partners and markets.

CGI SEPTEMBER 2022 MEETING

This September, CGI brought together global and emerging leaders to take action on the world’s most pressing challenges. As part of the meeting, 144 new Commitments to Action were announced that address climate change, health equity, inclusive economic growth, and the global refugee crisis.

Impact

At the Clinton Foundation, we believe data should be used to guide how programs are designed and implemented. We leverage both quantitative and qualitative information in order to promote evidence-based decision-making and help the Foundation and our community of partners achieve greater results in people’s lives across the country and around the world.
